WRP Cobra Rods are borate wood preservative rods designed to provide long-term internal protection for repaired and moisture-prone wood. Installed in pre-drilled holes, the rods release preservative ingredients into the surrounding wood to help protect against fungal decay and wood-destroying organisms.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
WRP Cobra Rods are borate wood preservative rods containing disodium octaborate and copper preservatives designed to provide long-term internal protection for repaired and moisture-prone wood. Installed in pre-drilled holes within sound wood, Cobra Rods slowly release borate and copper preservatives into the surrounding fibers to help protect against fungal decay, wood rot, and wood-destroying organisms.
As moisture moves through the wood, the preservative ingredients diffuse outward from the rod. This makes Cobra Rods useful for structural beams, porch columns, window sills, fascia boards, door frames, garage door trim, and other repairs where internal wood protection is beneficial. Cobra Rods help protect wood; they do not replace structural evaluation, WRP Liquid Wood Consolidant, or WRP Epoxy Dough when damaged wood must be strengthened and rebuilt.

COMMON QUESTIONS
WRP Cobra Rods are solid borate wood preservative rods containing disodium octaborate and copper preservatives installed in pre-drilled holes to provide long-term internal protection for repaired and moisture-prone wood.
Cobra Rods use borate and copper preservatives. They are commonly described as boron, borate, or wood preservative rods because the active ingredients diffuse into surrounding wood fibers when moisture is present.
Install Cobra Rods in sound wood surrounding the repair area, especially near likely moisture entry points. Follow the recommended hole size, depth, spacing, and placement guidance for the selected rod.
Cobra Rods help protect surrounding wood from future fungal decay. Existing loose or deteriorated wood still needs to be removed, and the moisture source must be corrected before the repair is completed.
No. Cobra Rods are preservative rods, not structural reinforcement. Suitable weakened wood is strengthened with WRP Liquid Wood Consolidant, and missing sections are rebuilt with WRP Epoxy Dough A & B.
Yes. Cobra Rods can be used in interior and exterior wood restoration projects where long-term internal preservative protection is appropriate.
Install Cobra Rods after the damaged area has been inspected, unsound wood has been removed, and the moisture source has been corrected. Then continue with the remaining WRP repair steps.
Common applications include structural beams, porch columns, window sills, fascia boards, door frames, garage door trim, posts, and other large or moisture-prone wood repairs.
Drill the properly sized hole in sound wood, insert the rod until fully seated, and complete the repair according to the product instructions. Read How to Use Cobra Rods to Protect Repaired Wood for the full process.

WRP Cobra Rods are solid borate wood preservative rods used to help protect repaired and moisture-prone wood from fungal decay and wood-destroying organisms. The rods are installed in properly sized, pre-drilled holes within sound wood surrounding the repair area.
The product contains anhydrous disodium octaborate as its primary ingredient, along with copper from copper hydroxide and boric acid. When moisture is present, the preservative ingredients become available within the surrounding wood, helping protect areas that surface-applied treatments may not easily reach.
Cobra Rods are commonly used in larger repairs, structural members, and areas where repeated moisture exposure may increase the risk of future decay.
Cobra Rods are installed in sound wood near the damaged or repaired area. Moisture allows the preservative ingredients in the rod to become available within the surrounding wood fibers, providing internal protection where future decay may otherwise develop.
Cobra Rods help preserve wood, but they do not strengthen weakened wood or replace proper repair preparation. All loose and deteriorated material must still be removed, the moisture source must be corrected, and weakened or missing wood must be restored with the appropriate WRP products.
For step-by-step guidance, read How to Use Cobra Rods to Protect Repaired Wood or review How WRP Works.
Cobra Rods can be incorporated into the complete WRP Wood Restoration System:
Cobra Rods are wood preservative rods. They do not provide structural reinforcement and should not be used as a substitute for WRP Liquid Wood Consolidant, WRP Epoxy Dough, professional structural evaluation, or replacement when severe deterioration has compromised a load-bearing component.
Wear appropriate eye protection and protective clothing when drilling and installing Cobra Rods. Avoid generating or breathing dust. Store the product in a dry location, keep it away from children and food, and follow the current label and Safety Data Sheet.
